Lavrov: UN is interested in deploying its presence directly in  Nagorno-Karabakh

ArmInfo.Russia informed its colleagues in detail, primarily from France and the United States as co-chairs - together with us - of the OSCE Minsk Group on how the  situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone is now developing.  This was announced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a  meeting chaired by Russian President Vladimir Putin and with the  participation of Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, Emergencies Minister  Yevgeny Zinichev, FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov.

In New York, the UN Security Council  was fully informed of the efforts that were undertaken by Russia and  led to the conclusion of the November 9 agreement.

We are also in contact with international organizations that are  involved in humanitarian activities. These are, first of all, the  [UN] High Commissioner for Refugees, the United Nations Office for  the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and the United Nations  Development Program, "Lavrov said.

According to him, all these structures have their presence in the  region, but not directly in Nagorno- Karabakh. "And now we are in  contact with our Armenian and Azerbaijani colleagues, at the request  of the UN structures, we agree that they can deploy their presence  directly in Nagorno-Karabakh.  The UN is very interested in  coordinating their actions in the event of such a deployment with our  peacekeepers, with our border guards and with those who will solve  humanitarian tasks along the line of the mission that Russia is  carrying out.

In addition to the UN structures and in addition to the requests that  come from them, namely, to provide access to Karabakh, to those in  need, it is also important for them to have accurate data on how many  refugees, how many displaced persons have moved where. It is also  important for us to evaluate this on our own and, of course, also in  contact with the Azerbaijani and Armenian sides, '' said the head of  the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Lavrov added that outside the UN there is also an International  Committee Of the Red Cross, which has been working in the region for  a long time, he had constant presence in Stepanakert itself for many  years.  The minister reported that after the outbreak of hostilities  this presence they They were forced to evacuate to Yerevan, now they  have returned there and are again resuming their work there, they are  also interested in establishing coordination with our  representatives. "The President of the International Committee of the  Red Cross Peter Maurer will be in the Russian Federation on Tuesday,  we expect to organize a meeting for him not only at the Ministry of  Foreign Affairs, but also with our military, with representatives of  the Emergencies Ministry and border guards," Lavrov concluded.
