ArmInfo. A Greek frigate expelled the Turkish ship Oruc Reis from the disputed waters off the island of Kastellorizo in the Mediterranean. The Military Observer Telegram channel reported this on October 22.
The Turkish vessel was conducting seismic surveys in the Eastern Mediterranean. The Greeks considered that it violated the borders of the continental shelf of the country, and sent a warship there. The channel writes that this is the first contact between Greece and Turkey, which was recorded in this region after another aggravation in their relations. To recall, earlier Turkey began seismic work in the Mediterranean. The Oruc Reis vessel is capable of conducting shelf exploration at a depth of 8,000 to 15,000 meters.
In turn, the EU called on Turkey to abandon geological exploration in the disputed waters. EU leaders called on the country to "work to ease tensions on a permanent and sustainable basis."
