ArmInfo. Greece calls on the European Commission to consider the possibility of suspending the agreement on a customs union between Turkey and the EU. This was reported by the Athens-Macedonian News Agency with reference to its diplomatic sources.
The reason for the appeal, as the source notes, was the ongoing provocations of Ankara. In a letter to European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias noted that the EC should consider the total suspension of the customs union "as a signal of disapproval of Turkey's ongoing illegal behavior'' against the European Union.
He also stated that Turkey continues to unilaterally violate the rules of the EU-Turkey customs union by introducing unforeseen tariffs and urged the European Commission to immediately consider taking further measures.
