ArmInfo. The first president of the USSR, Mikhail Gorbachev, welcomes the introduction of a ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh and calls on the parties to continue negotiations. "I support this [ceasefire]. It is good that this first step has been taken. It is good that Russia helped. But it is very important that this does not end there," Gorbachev said, in response to a TASS request for comment on the parties' agreement.
According to him, it is necessary to agree on ways of settling "this very difficult problem", "it is necessary to gradually solve it step by step."
As a result of consultations held in Moscow on October 9 on the initiative of the Russian side, Baku and Yerevan agreed on a ceasefire from 12:00 local time (11:00 Moscow time) on October 10 for humanitarian purposes for the exchange of prisoners, as well as the bodies of the dead. Shortly after noon, the parties accused each other of violating the ceasefire.
