ArmInfo. The CSTO obligations do not apply to Karabakh, unlike Armenia, press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov said, RIA Novosti reported.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin recalled that Armenia is a member of the CSTO, and Russia has certain obligations to the country.
"These are obligations in terms of ensuring security. That is, if a CSTO member country is subjected to some kind of aggression, attack from the outside, then in this case the member states of the treaty have obligations to stand up for such a state," Peskov answered the question of journalists about what obligations are in question. Speaking about which case Russia is ready to send military personnel to the conflict zone in Nagorno-Karabakh, the presidential press secretary noted that "this follows from obligations."
"In this case, we are talking about Armenia, the president has clearly clarified this and delimited these two issues. The CSTO obligations do not apply to Karabakh," Peskov added.
Earlier, the leaders of Russia, the United States and France called on the opposing sides to stop clashes and to undertake to start negotiations without preconditions. Turkey announced that it will provide Azerbaijan with any support it requests against the background of another aggravation of the situation in Nagorno- Karabakh.
