ArmInfo. In connection with the situation in Nagorno- Karabakh, the Kremlin calls on all sides to maximum restraint. This statement was made on Monday in an interview with reporters by the Spokesperson of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.
"At the moment, we call on all parties, primarily the parties to the conflict, to maximum restraint, to abandon military methods of solving issues and also to abandon any steps that may provoke further unwanted aggravation of the situation, which, in fact, is already at the stage of military confrontation, " Peskov said.
According to him, Russian President Vladimir Putin, if necessary, will hold a telephone conversation with the leadership of Azerbaijan.
"If necessary, they [contacts with the leadership of Azerbaijan] will, of course, take place," a Kremlin spokesman said, answering a question about a possible conversation between Putin and the Azerbaijani side, since the Russian president had a telephone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan earlier on Sunday.
At the same time, Peskov drew attention to the fact that "from the very first hours after the resumption of hostilities, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov entered into constant contact with his counterparts," TASS reports.
The Kremlin also believes that now is not the time to figure out who is right and who is to blame for the escalation in Nagorno-Karabakh, it is important to stop hostilities. "Russia is the co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group and, of course, playing the role of such a ready mediator in the settlement, and such a readiness was emphasized and stressed at various levels. Now it is very important, first of all, to stop hostilities, and not to figure out who is right, and who is to blame. Russia has always taken a balanced position. It is this position that gives Russia the opportunity to use its influence and traditionally good relations with both countries, both Armenia and Azerbaijan, to resolve this conflict, "Peskov told reporters, answering the question whether the Kremlin has understanding who was the initiator of the escalation of the confrontation in Nagorno-Karabakh and who was interested in this, RIA Novosti reports.
