ArmInfo. Criticism of the three candidates elected by the Constitutional Court judges is, on the whole, normal. We understand that there is no consensus in our society on this issue and cannot be. MP from the "My Step" bloc Suren Grigoryan of the Armenian parliament expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.
By secret ballot, the Armenian parliament on September 15 elected three new judges of the Constitutional Court. 88 MPs of the "My Step" bloc, "Prosperous Armenia" and "Bright Armenia" did not participate in the voting.
"Armenian society, like any other society, is far from homogeneous. And the presence of opposing opinions regarding candidates, in this light, looks quite natural. At the same time, should be taken into account that two of the three candidates did not work in the judicial system. And Yervand Khundkaryan was nominated not by the Government or the President, but by the Assembly of Judges," the parliamentarian stressed.
Commenting on the accusations against the political majority of the loyalty of the three elected judges to the previous Government, Grigoryan noted that if "My Step" were guided in its actions by such criteria of loyalty, then no judge in Armenia could be appointed a judge of the Constitutional Court.
In general, the parliamentarian refers to the motivation underlying such criticism of the authorities with a significant degree of doubt. Moreover, there are doubts about the critics themselves. Grigoryan is convinced that many of those opposed to the candidacy and election of the same Khundkaryan have no real, justified motivation. In reality, everything is simpler - many of these people would just really like to see their candidates in the Constitutional Court.
The Assembly of Judges nominated Chairman of the Court of Cassation Yervand Khundkaryan as a candidate, Government - Associate Professor of the Department of Constitutional Law of YSU Edgar Shatiryan, the President of Armenia re-nominated Artur Vagharshyan, Head of the Department of Theory of State and Law of YSU. 84 MP voted for Yervand Khundkaryan, 2 -against, two ballots were declared invalid. 86 MPs supported Artur Vagharshyan's candidacy, one was against, another ballot was declared invalid. 85 MPs votes for Edgar Shatiryan, 3 parliamentarians against.
