ArmInfo.Moscow is not interested in growth of tensions in the South Caucasus. Minister of Defence of the Russian Federation, General of the Army Segey Shoigu stated this at a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Zakir Hasanov in Baku.
"We learnt and have observed with concern the events that took place on the border with Armenia: And we know about the worries that exist in connection with our flights to our base. I want to say right away: all our actions have never been directed and are not now directed against Azerbaijan, our neighbor and our partner. Russia is not interested in the escalation of tension in the Transcaucasus, "TASS quoted him as saying. The minister explained that Russia is building social facilities at its base in Gyumri, which the military is currently not provided with, and this explains "some insignificant activity." Secondly, Shoigu added, this activity is connected with the draft campaign, when some servicemen had to be returned home, others - taken to the place of service. "I will repeat once again: our actions and steps have never been directed against Azerbaijan and are not directed today," the head of the RF Ministry of Defense assured.
