ArmInfo.The United States government has allocated an additional $ 1.43 million to combat the consequences of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Armenia. The funds will be transferred through the US Department of State and the US Agency for International Development (USAID). The USAID press service told ArmInfo about this.
At the same time, the message recalls that in the 2020 financial year, the US government has allocated a total of over $ 4 million to Armenia in emergency assistance.
"The United States is providing vital support in coordination with the Armenian government, international humanitarian partners and other stakeholders to identify priority areas for investment.
$ 1 million in new assistance from USAID will support the agriculture and tourism sectors for economic recovery from the pandemic and adapt their needs to the conditions of the post-pandemic world. The remaining $ 436 thousand will be used to assist vulnerable migrants who cannot return home due to the pandemic. The funds will be allocated for the provision of housing, food and access to medical and social services, "the message says.
It is also recalled that over the past 20 years, the United States has invested more than $ 1.57 billion in general aid to Armenia, including almost $ 106 million in health care. For decades, the United States has been the world's largest provider of bilateral health care.
