ArmInfo. Moscow will continue to strive to prevent the escalation of the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. And to bring their own efforts to the next, albeit fragile, but the status quo.
A similar opinion was expressed to ArmInfo by Russian political scientist Andrei Areshev. "After the next escalation of the conflict on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, today between its sides, with the mediation of Moscow, both official and unofficial negotiations are being held. It is necessary to understand the extreme undesirability for Russia of any manifestation of an escalation of the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan," he stressed.
Areshev highlighted the threats posed by this conflict to the now internal stability of Russia. The political scientist assesses all the recent conflict situations between the Armenian and Azerbaijani communities living in Russian cities and the capital as extremely dangerous from the point of view of maintaining stability in the country.
In this light, he noted Moscow's extreme interest in lowering the degree of tension in the South Caucasus with all the capabilities and mechanisms available in its arsenal. At the same time, Areshev stressed that, contrary to the voiced opinions, Russia has never been and is not an exclusive moderator of the Karabakh conflict, capable of leading its parties to a mutually acceptable solution.
The political scientist singled out Turkey among the centers of power not interested in stabilizing the regional situation. According to him, for years in favor of a military scenario for resolving the conflict, Ankara, especially in recent years, has been putting serious obstacles in the way of Moscow's efforts. Moreover, it is the open Turkish support that gives decisiveness to the actions to withdraw the conflict outside the region. Ankara is also trying to use the Karabakh conflict to put pressure on Moscow and Europe.
The clashes initiated by the Azerbaijani army on July 12 on the Tavush section of the border with Armenia have led to the loss of more than 20 people killed by the Azerbaijani armed forces, three tanks, the destruction and capture of 13 drones, and the capture of a combat position of the Azerbaijani armed forces. Losses of the Armed Forces of Armenia amounted to 5 people.
