ArmInfo. The Haydat Committee in London nipped in the bud the anti- Armenian statement in the British Parliament. Head of the ARF Hay Dat and Political Affairs Office Kiro Manoyan said this in an interview with ArmInfo correspondent.
On July 13, British parliamentarian Bob Blackman introduced the text of a statement entitled "Armenia's aggression against Azerbaijan" into the circulation in the United Kingdom House of Commons. The document was filed in the Early day motion format and, if approved by at least a hundred "lower house" lawmakers, could appear on the agenda of the House of Lords - the "upper" house of the British Parliament. The authors of the text condemned "Armenian aggression against Azerbaijan" in it, accusing Yerevan of the recent escalation on the border. The statement was signed by five of the 650 members of the lower house of parliament. However, two of them soon withdrew their signatures.
"The advancement of this statement was stopped not spontaneously, but thanks to the London committee of Haydat. Our counterparts carried out appropriate work both with the two signers of the anti-Armenian text, who subsequently renounced their signatures, and with members of the UK-Armenia parliamentary friendship group," he said.
In his words, initially there were too many "ifs" on the way of the anti-Armenian document. However, if the authors of the text were able to collect the required number of signatures in the House of Commons, the statement would be on the discussion in the House of Lords. That in itself, according to Manoyan's estimates, would bode no good for Armenia.
"At the moment, the danger has been neutralized, and there are only three British lawmakers behind the document. However, the British parliament will soon go on vacation. Until this period, there are no prospects for an anti-Armenian statement and there cannot be. Time will tell what will happen after the parliament returns from vacation ", Manoyan concluded.
