ArmInfo. Yerevan relies on Russia's mediation efforts to resolve the escalation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, the head of the Armenian diplomatic mission in Moscow Vardan Toghanyan told TASS.
"Today there was a statement by the press secretary of the president of the Russian Federation, and the Foreign Ministry made a statement yesterday We are also counting very much on Russia that it will be able to make its mediation efforts to stop what is happening there [on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border]. We are counting on the reaction of our colleagues from the CSTO, because we are talking about a section of the Armenian border, which is recognized by the CSTO members, "the diplomat said. In addition, the Ambassador pointed out that the situation is complicated by the aggressive statements of Turkey.
Answering the question about the possibility of submitting the situation to the UN Security Council, he noted that Yerevan expects relevant actions from the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group primarily.
"The only legitimate international mandate is given to the OSCE Minsk Group, the three countries of the Security Council - Russia, the USA, France - are participants in this process. We already know the reaction of Russia, we know the reaction of the State Department and France, therefore, negotiations are underway and the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan talked yesterday with the Russian minister. I think this question should be addressed to the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, "Toghanyan concluded.
