Lilit Makunts reported that at a meeting with lawmakers from the "My Step" faction, Armenian President Armen Sarkissian proposed giving him the right to appoint 3 out of 9 judges of the Constitutional Court. In an interview with reporters, the head of the "My Step" faction stated that the Ministry of Justice has recently formed a working group that is developing a draft amendment to the Constitution.
"This proposal of the president should be discussed on this plane, with the participation of representatives of the president's apparatus, legislative, judicial and executive authorities," the lawmaker emphasized. According to Lilit Makunts, there is no question of reducing the powers of the President of Armenia.
It should be noted that at a meeting with members of the expert commission on constitutional reforms, Armenian President Armen Sarkissian expressed a desire to be given the opportunity to directly appoint three judges of the Constitutional Court.
