ArmInfo.During the meeting, chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Supreme Advisory Council (SAC) of Turkey decided to establish a special "autonomous and civil new body" that will respond to the statements on the Armenian Genocide and will work on developing a decriminalization strategy.
According to Turkish media, the idea of creating a separate agency arose three months ago, when a resolution on the Armenian Genocide was submitted to the US Congress, and claims of Armenians against Turkey were started in American courts, but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
It is also noted that the idea of creating such a structure belongs to Cemil Cicek, member of the High Advisory Board, who stressed during the briefing that Turkey does not have a specific structure that will deal with the issue of denying the Armenian Genocide and developing a strategy.
Sources say that the Turkish president accepted the proposals of the participants and instructed to create an independent body, which will deal specifically with the denial of the Armenian Genocide.
It is also noted that Turkey was concerned by the fact that the Armenian lobby is actively engaged in the recognition of the Armenian Genocide as a crime against humanity. "Considering the consequences for Turkey if this term is assigned to the Armenian Genocide committed in the Ottoman Empire in 1915, five Turkish scientific organizations have already prepared a report, which was considered at a meeting of theSAC," Turkish media write.
