ArmInfo. The Karabakh conflict will remain frozen as long as Russia exists in its current form. Azerbaijani political scientist Zardusht Alizadeh expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.
"However, there is another option: the Armenian and Azerbaijani peoples can somehow come to their senses and get out of the state of nationalism and hatred imposed on them. Today our peoples are deeply infected with mutual hatred, ignorance, revenge and unrealized dreams. That is why the option of the resolution of the conflict between the two nations in a peaceful way, to mutual benefit, seems so fantastic today, "he said.
According to Alizadeh, the Karabakh conflict initiated by the Russian special services and the leadership, is in this sense on a par with Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Transnistria, now Crimea and Donetsk with Lugansk. And local foolish nationalists were involved in heating up these conflicts, becoming brainless, mute instruments in the hands of Russia.
"In the case of Karabakh, it was Russia, indirectly, by the hands of Armenian and Azerbaijani politicians and field commanders, that controlled the course of hostilities. Moscow achieved the victory of Armenia and the loss of Azerbaijan and froze the conflict. Of course, neither we nor the Armenians really won, instead Russia won, using the frozen conflict as a great tool to keep the entire region under its own control, "he said.
According to the political scientist, today, after more than a quarter century since the cessation of hostilities, there are very few people in Armenia and Azerbaijan who understand the essence and real causes of the Karabakh conflict. These are people who see its destructive impact on the conflicting countries. People trying to explain to two peoples its destructiveness, explain the need for reconciliation and seeking a way out.
"In the end, the principles of the right of peoples to self-determination and the territorial integrity of states are absolutely compatible. The Aland Islands, Northern Ireland, and even Tatarstan can be brought as an example. But Russia still stands on our path to peace, still supporting Armenia and Azerbaijan's political forces, which have committed themselves not to resolve the conflict, the same Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan once traveled to Aland and was fascinated by the purely European peace and prosperity there, but today he claims that Artsakh is Armenia. By doing this he demonstrates tacid agreement with the course of Moscow, agrees not to resolve the conflict. Our president does the same, "he said.
According to the Azerbaijani political scientist, the entire state policy of Azerbaijan and Armenia is all about the Karabakh conflict. And the leadership of the two countries before and now is in power due to refusal to resolve the conflict and obstructing all those who try to resolve it. That is why no real peace process around Karabakh has been carried out for all these years. There has been only an imitation of this process. Meanwhile, taking into account the considerable potential of the world, the conflict, according to Alizadeh's forecasts, can be quickly resolved taking into account the interests of both the Armenian and Azerbaijani people.
