ArmInfo. If necessary, the election of judges of the Constitutional Court of Armenia may be discussed at an extraordinary meeting of the RA National Assembly.
Amendments to the constitutional law "On the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly" were adopted at the plenary meeting of the Armenian parliament on June 3 in the first reading.
According to the author of the document, MP from the ruling bloc "My Step" Vahagn Hovakimyan, the constitutional law "On the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly" provides for such regulation on on the election of a judge of the Constitutional Court who artificially drag out the process. In particular, in the case of the judge's resignation, if this happens at the end of the spring session, for example, in May, and the body provided for in the Constitution with the authority to present him to the judge fulfills his obligation, the judge's place will remain vacant for more than four months. The purpose of this change is to provide parliament with the opportunity to organize, if necessary, the election of a judge of the Constitutional Court at an extraordinary meeting. Thus, the process of replenishing the vacant position of a judge of the Constitutional Court will not be delayed purely due to the conditionality of formal regulation.
