ArmInfo. Peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict remains a priority for the European Union. The head of the EU delegation to the RA, Ambassador Andrea Wiktorin, stated this during a video conference organized by the Armenian service of Radio Liberty.
According to her, the EU continues to support the efforts of the Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, calling for a higher level of peaceful negotiation. "This conflict has no military solution, and it is necessary to find a political solution that is consistent with international law," the Ambassador said.
When asked about the possibility of the presence of the EU delegation in Karabakh, the Ambassador recalled that Nagorno-Karabakh is unrecognized as a subject of international law, the EU member states and the European Union itself did not recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as a republic, therefore the EU cannot establish a presence there, assisting people affected by the conflict. Nevertheless, as the diplomat noted, the European Union will continue to support the efforts of the co-chairs, including through its special representative. "The European Union continues to support the peace process and contacts between the two sides," the diplomat said.
