ArmInfo. The Armenian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on the process of organizing the return of citizens from abroad.
So, the Ministry reminded that the checkpoint "Upper Lars" is still closed for foreign citizens, including Armenia.
"We urge RA citizens who are currently at the checkpoint to return to their permanent places of residence until today, to join the line at the Armenian diplomatic missions, through which the process of organizing the return of citizens to their homeland is coordinated. We also inform that the process of return of Armenian citizens from abroad is organized exclusively with the coordination of the commandant's office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, in accordance with the developed roadmap and action plan, "the Armenian Foreign Ministry noted. The ministry assured that this plan allows for the safe and healthy return of citizens, while allowing the health system of the Republic of Armenia to work smoothly.
Recalling once again that the Armenian side continues to organize the process of returning its citizens to their homeland, the Armenian Foreign Ministry emphasized that isolated cases or initiatives that violate the restrictions imposed by other states can lead to uncontrollable consequences and disrupt the process of returning citizens.
"Based on the foregoing, we urge our citizens to use only the mechanisms established by the commandant's office and the Foreign Ministry to return to Armenia, and to refrain from personal initiatives," the foreign ministry emphasized.
Earlier, a number of media reported that a group of RA citizens decided to return to Armenia from Russia in their vehicles by land via Georgia. As a result, they were able to cross the Russian border through the Upper Lars checkpoint, but the Georgian side refused to let them in because of the restrictions imposed by the country on March 16 for foreigners. Thus, RA citizens remained in the inter-border zone between Georgia and Russia.
