ArmInfo. The international recognition of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire is not an end in itself, it is not only the restoration of historical justice in relation to what happened to the Armenian people then and it concerns not only the Armenian people.
Tigran Seyranyan, the Ambassador of Armenia to Ukraine, said this in an interview to the Ukrainian TV channel "Nash" (Our), touching upon the question why the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide is among the foreign policy priorities of the Republic of Armenia.
The Armenian diplomat recalled that the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide is the most important tool for preventing new crimes against humanity.
"And we, as a people and a state that survived the first genocide of the 20th century, play a leading role in the international prevention of such crimes. In 2015, Armenia and Ukraine co-sponsored a UN resolution on the establishment of an international day in memory of victims of the crime of genocide, in honor of their dignity and for the prevention of this crime. At the same time, Armenian and Ukrainian diplomats worked very effectively on the agenda of the genocide in other international organizations, especially in Vienna and the OSCE. The fact that we are cooperating on this issue demonstrates that we have a huge resource for further cooperation in this direction ", the Ambassador of Armenia assured.
Speaking about the Armenian-Ukrainian interaction, the diplomat assured that Armenia is ready to develop a dialogue with Ukraine, with which there is a great experience of friendship and work, a wide agenda of relations.
"We have great potential in economic relations. There are issues on which we cooperate, and we can develop this agenda. There is potential for cooperation in such areas as alternative energy, high technologies," the RA Ambassador said, citing as an example also the opening of the networks of the TUMO Center for Creative Technologies in Paris, in Berlin, and the intention to the upcoming opening in Kiev.
According to Seyranyan, both countries are undergoing similar democratic reforms, similar processes are underway, and he cited the struggle of the two countries' authorities against corruption as an example. "Our states are part of the Eastern Partnership, and there are also many points of contact. The most important thing is that societies in Ukraine and Armenia are based on the same common European system of values. That is, we have more in common than differences," the diplomat said.
