On the occasion of the 28th anniversary of the liberation of Shushi and Yerkrapah Day, Armenian Minister of Defense David Tonoyan visited the Yerablur military pantheon, where he paid tribute to the memory of Armenians who sacrificed their lives for the freedom and independence of Armenia and Artsakh.
According to the press secretary of the Armenian Ministry of Defense Shushan Stepanyan on her Facebook page, Tonoyana was also accompanied by the chairman of the parliamentary committee on defense and security affairs Andranik Kocharyan and the chairman of "Yerkrapah" volunteer union Sasun Mikaelyan.
After laying flowers, the ceremony of symbolic planting of trees took place.
To note, 28 years ago, on this day, May 8, the city of Shushi was liberated. Military operations were carried out in four directions. Arkady Ter-Tadevosyan led the operation called "Wedding in the Mountains". The liberation of Shushi was a turning point in the Karabakh war. From this very section that Azerbaijanis fired on the capital of Karabakh - Stepanakert, as well as the nearest villages.
The military operations to liberate Shushi are almost flawless in terms of development and implementation, a unique military operation that lasted 26 hours, and on May 9, Shushi was already released. In the battles for the liberation of Shusha, the Armenian army lost 57 people killed, and Azerbaijanis - 250-300 people killed and 600-700 wounded. Another 13 people were captured.
