ArmInfo. The current state of the Karabakh conflict is determined by the coronavirus, since the conflict cannot remain aloof from unprecedented and difficultly predicted global trends. A similar opinion was expressed by ArmInfo, head of scientific research at the Dialogue of Civilizations Institute, political scientist Alexey Malashenko.
"Even regardless of the current situation, the Karabakh conflict was one of the most unpredictable confrontations in the world. And, accordingly, it has always been distinguished by the complete impossibility of any accurate forecasting. I personally do not see any prerequisites for the resumption of large-scale hostilities today. the level of events four years ago, "he said.
Recall that the four-day war in Artsakh began with a sudden attack by Azerbaijan on the night of April 2, 2016. The NKR Defense Army successfully suppressed the aggressive actions of the enemy. According to the RA Ministry of Defense, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces lost about 500 people, not to mention the loss of equipment. Armenia and Artsakh lost more than 100 people.
In his forecasts for Artsakh, the political scientist proceeds from a rather serious situation in the surrounding region and the world as a whole. Malashenko noted that the leadership of Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Russia, Iran and Turkey today is focused on the fight against coronavirus infection, rather than geopolitics. In turn, global players: USA, China, EU countries are trying to find effective ways to overcome COVID-19.
"No one today knows how long this whole situation will last. Accordingly, the main task of everyone everywhere is to manage the situation, to reach its effective resolution, to create a vaccine against coronavirus. Everything else has faded into the background today. The situation in Russia is alarming, in China can only control the coronavirus through total isolation of the population. Such a situation and war are simply not compatible. And this is independent of anyone's desires and domestic political situation, "Malashenko said.
