ArmInfo.In addition to the previously allocated $ 60 million, the United States will provide Armenia with $ 1.1 million to fight against coronavirus. The US Ambassador to RA Lynne Tracy said this on March 31 during an online conference.
At the same time, she emphasized that these funds will be used to promote laboratory activities, diagnose the disease, identify contacts of an infected person and solve other technical issues.
Tracy added that this assistance is part of the continued assistance that the United States provides to Armenia's healthcare sector. In this context, she noted that over the past 20 years, the USA has provided $ 106 million to the healthcare sector. The diplomat also recalled that, thanks to US assistance, 6 biological laboratories have been built in the Republic of Armenia in recent years, and the central one, located in Avan is the only one where coronavirus can be diagnosed in terms of safety.
She also informed that the embassy plans to provide assistance to about 1000 elderly people in the Shirak region of the Republic of Armenia - assistance will be in the form of food assistance, the provision of basic necessities.
At the same time, the diplomat called for taking this challenge seriously and observing all measures to prevent the disease.
Tracy also praised the measures taken by the Armenian government to prevent the spread of the epidemic in the country. She also stated that the restrictive measures taken by the government are a difficult decision, but necessary one. However, she expressed the conviction that the positive results of these steps will already be tangible in the foreseeable future. "In conclusion, she informed that the number one task for them is to ensure the safety of partners, visitors and employees of the US Embassy. Tracy emphasized that they followed the calls of the RA government and reduced the number of employees in the embassy to the minimum possible, adding that they continue to work and be accessible to US citizens, partners and the RA government.
