ArmInfo. The National Agenda party calls on the Artsakh authorities to postpone the presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for March 31. This was reported by the press service of the party.
According to the source, in connection with the spread of coronavirus infection in Armenia, with which Artsakh is in close contact, and in which the number of infected citizens has reached 194, it cannot be ruled out that the infection will also enter the NKR. Moreover, in order to prevent the spread of infection, Armenia has temporarily suspended the transport communication of the Republic of Armenia with many countries of the world.
Thus, during the elections in the NKR, firstly, crowds are expected at polling stations, which contributes to the spread of the virus. Secondly, it is assumed that representatives of observation missions from Armenia and other countries will come to monitor the elections in Artsakh, which also contains the risks of the spread of the disease.
In addition, there is a danger of the refusal of most observer missions to arrive in Artsakh for monitoring the election process. This, according to the authors of the statement, will call into question the international legitimacy of the elections, especially when the outcome of the struggle between the main rivals is quite unpredictable. "The second round of the presidential election is also possible, and the epidemiological situation in the Republic of Artsakh will become more complicated during this time, it may create an even more difficult situation when holding new elections between the candidates who have passed in the second round becomes technically impossible. Thus, we call on the authorities Artsakh to postpone the election, "the authors of the statement say.
