ArmInfo. The likelihood of a second round of presidential elections in Artsakh remains very high. A similar opinion was expressed by ArmInfo Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, ex-Foreign Minister of Artsakh Arman Melikyan.
"I think that the last days of the election campaign will be decisive in this regard, when the situation will finally clear up. So far I see three candidates. One of the media has been proclaimed a protege of Soros, the second is a corrupt chameleon, the third is so compromised that its supporters are exclusively affiliated people with the former Armenian authorities, "he said.
At the upcoming March 31 presidential election in Artsakh, 14 candidates registered. The main candidate for power is the ex-minister of state, one of the richest businessmen of Artsakh, Araik Harutyunyan. His main opponent from the opposition is the Foreign Minister of the Republic Masis Mayilyan, who is supported by the ex-commander of the Defense Army Samvel Babayan.
Attaching importance to the results of the upcoming elections, the diplomat predicts an increase in the observed tension by the end of the campaign. According to him, the situation in Artsakh is very tense and, due to the mutual black PR of the candidates, is destructive in nature. At the same time, he did not rule out a change in the leaders of the election race towards the end of the election campaign.
According to Melikyan, in the foreground in Artsakh today are people who are actively working for candidates. These people represent an electoral minority, while the majority silently watches what is happening and will say their final word on election day.
Commenting on the attitude of the Armenian leadership and personally Prime Minister Pashinyan to the electoral processes in Artsakh, the diplomat noted that Yerevan should be more trusted in the political maturity of the Artsakh voter. Melikyan is convinced that the Artsakh people very well distinguish enemies from true patriots.
