ArmInfo. Since 1991, Turkey has been trying to crawl into the ranks of the three co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, but so far all attempts have failed. Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia Ruben Safrastyan expressed the same point of view on the question of ArmInfo on March 9 at a press conference in Yerevan.
At the same time, he added that despite this, Turkey does not abandon its attempts, periodically taking some steps. "Another of these attempts was the last meeting of the three co-chairs with the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu. But, you need to understand that without the consent of all parties, participation in the negotiation process of a new mediator, especially not so biased as Turkey, is impossible," the Orientalist said.
At the same time, Safrastyan stated that despite the fact that Turkey cannot get into the ranks of the three mediators, it pretends that it can solve something in this process. "This is a game - such is Turkish diplomacy. We see this game in Syria as well," Safrastyan concluded.
As ArmInfo previously reported, Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group Igor Popov (Russian Federation), Stephane Visconti (France), Andrew Schofer (USA) and tPersonal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office (PRCIO) Andrzej Kasprzyk paid a visit to Turkey, where they met with Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.
During a meeting with mediators Chavushoglu said that the OSCE Minsk Group should act more actively to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The Minister noted that the conflict should be resolved on the basis of sovereignty and within the internationally recognized borders of Azerbaijan.
Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan reacts to a message about a meeting of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, in particular, he wrote on his Twitterr page "MevlutCavusoglu's advise to OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs on NagornoKarabakh conflict invites reflection on Luke 4:23 - "Physician, heal thyself".
In turn, the Armenian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Anna Naghdalyan, in particular, said: "Given the unfriendly policy towards Armenia and the Armenian people, which is also reflected in the unilateral military and political support of Azerbaijan in the context of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Turkey cannot play any role in the peaceful resolution of this conflict.
