ArmInfo. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is forced to make efforts to push the negotiation process from the edge of the abyss, to which his predecessors brought him. A similar opinion was expressed by ArmInfo Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, ex- Foreign Minister of Artsakh Arman Melikyan.
"It was through the efforts of previous regimes that the possible solution to the Karabakh problem was narrowed for Armenia by a choice between surrender or war. It was for this reason that the preservation of the status quo was chosen as an acceptable tactic. Prime Minister Pashinyan has already brought some new accents to the process, which I assess very positively," - he noted.
Moreover, according to the diplomat, these accents are not enough to strengthen the Armenian negotiating positions and fully ensure and protect the national interests. In his opinion, this requires a radical revision of the negotiation approaches of the Armenian side. It is necessary to develop an Armenian comprehensive model of a peaceful settlement, as opposed to the long-developed Azerbaijani model.
According to him, the essence of the Azerbaijani model is the withdrawal of the Armenian Armed Forces from the territory of Artsakh, accompanied by the establishment of full-fledged military-political and economic control in Baku. If this is not done within a reasonable time, Azerbaijan will resort to military force.
"The answer to Armenia and Artsakh should be their own, new settlement concept, which will replace efforts to maintain the status quo. A concept that could force Baku to abandon aggressive encroachments in the future. This is the only alternative to the current negotiations with long-outdated and unrealizable content, the only unchanging reality in which remains the continuing status quo, "the diplomat concluded
