ArmInfo. On February 17, a campaign for a referendum on constitutional amendments started in Armenia. Campaigning will last until April 3. The referendum will be held on April 5. As it is known, the headquarters, which will be engaged in agitation in favor of constitutional reforms, will be headed by the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures of Armenia Suren Papikyan.
The term for the formation of the "No" headquarters by lawmakers expires on February 17. So far, not a single parliamentary force has announced the formation of this headquarters. MPs from the opposition factions Bright Armenia and Prosperous Armenia have already stated that they will not participate in the processes associated with the referendum. In case of non-registration of the "No" headquarters within the established period, a group consisting of at least 50 citizens may form <No> campaigning party. An application for registration by citizens of the party "No" can be submitted to the Central Election Commission from February 18, 2020. However, although the human rights activists of Armenia often speak about the formation of the headquarters of "No", documents have not yet been submitted to the CEC. It should be noted that on February 6, the parliament adopted a referendum decision at which Armenian citizens will decide whether they agree to amend the Constitution of the country. On April 5, a constitutional referendum will be held in Armenia, at which the issue of judges of the Constitutional Court will be decided. Many MPs and human rights activists said that this decision is unconstitutional, since initially the MPs had to send their proposal to the Constitutional Court.
According to the decision adopted on February 11 at the meeting of the CEC, the campaign will be held from February 17 to April 3.
