ArmInfo.There are no elite military units in Armenia. The Minister of Defense of Armenia David Tonoyan stated this from the rostrum of the parliament on February 12. He noted that in the framework of the tragic incident that occurred in the indicated military unit, the leadership of the Artsakh Defense Army brought all those responsible to disciplinary liability.
Tonoyan also added that those servicemen who pass as defendants in this criminal case, if their guilt is proved by the investigation, will be punished accordingly.
It should be noted that earlier a number of local media outlets, citing their sources, published information that the military unit, in which Vahram Avagyan received a mortal gunshot wound on January 30, is a duty station for "privileged" military personnel from wealthy families. According to the preliminary version presented by the Investigative Committee of Armenia, he shot himself in the chest from his machine gun.
Relatives of the deceased soldier marched to Yerevan on February 2, carrying a coffin with the body of the soldier. They did not believe the version of the investigation that Vahram committed suicide. Armenian Minister of Defense David Tonoyan met with them and promised an objective investigation of the case. After negotiations, the protesters decided to return to the village to bury Vahram.
In the framework of this case, the comrades-in-arms of the deceased soldier were detained - David Movsisyan (son of former member of the Armenian parliament Arakel Movsisyan (nicknamed Shmais-ed. note), Khachik Gasparyan, Spartak Avetisyan. They are suspected of committing an act provided for in paragraph 3 of Article 359 Criminal Code of Armenia (unlawful relations).
