ArmInfo. The Central Election Commission of Armenia approved a schedule of events for the preparation and conduct of a referendum on constitutional amendments. According to the decision adopted on February 11 at the CEC meeting, the campaign will be held from February 17 to April 3. The referendum itself, recall, will be held on April 5.
As the head of the CEC Tigran Mukuchyan told reporters, for registration of the propaganda party "NO", within seven days any deputy of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia can apply to the CEC. In the event that by February 17 none of the parliamentarians filed an application for registration, then from February 18 this can be done by an initiative group of citizens if there is a corresponding application with 50 signatures. At the same time, the campaign side and the campaign side will be allocated two places in the local election commissions.
In total, about 2.5 -2.7 billion drams will be spent on organizing a constitutional referendum. According to Mukuchyan, representatives of public organizations and political parties can be involved as observers. At the same time, he found it difficult to answer the question of whether, as in the case of extraordinary parliamentary elections, CCTV cameras will be installed at polling stations.
Speaking about his relations with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, he emphasized that the CEC will organize elections within the framework of the law, and in 2018, under the new authorities, elections to the Council of Elders of Yerevan as well as to the parliament were organized. Recall that on February 9, Armenian President Armen Sargsyan scheduled a referendum on constitutional amendments on April 5 this year. Earlier, on February 6, the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia decided to submit draft amendments to the Constitution to the referendum. 88 deputies voted for this decision, against 15. It is a question of introducing amendments to Article 213 of the Constitution, providing for the dissolution of the Constitutional Court.
On February 10, Nikol Pashinyan called on Armenian citizens who, for objective and subjective reasons, found themselves outside the country, to come by April 5 to participate in the referendum on constitutional amendments. In his address posted on the page on Facebook, the head of government noted that there is an opportunity for return, bearing in mind the appearance of low-cost carriers such as Ryanair and Wizz Air in the Armenian market. "Say yes to the revolution, say yes to the Armenians, say yes to the rule of law, say yes to the present and future of Armenia," said Pashinyan.
