ArmInfo.Residents of the Yerevan community of Malatia- Sebastia on February 10 came out to protest, protesting against the construction of the North-South highway.
According to the protesters, the construction of the road, no doubt, should play a positive role in the development of the country, however the highway should not pass near residential buildings. The construction already restricts the inhabitants of these buildings in movement, creates threats to children. "I wonder who designed the road on this site?" protesters said, insisting on laying the track in a place somewhat remote from the buildings.
To note, the protesters are accompanied by reinforced police units, which also ensure the safety of construction work.
In February 2017, the Armenian Parliament ratified the $ 112.97 million loan agreement with the Asian Development Bank (Sustainable Urban Development Investment Program 2) signed on October 13, 2015 for the construction of bypass routes in Yerevan to unload the center of the capital.
The loan was provided within the second part of the "Investment Program for Sustainable Urban Development". Highways under construction will relieve the central streets of the capital, as well as connect the main routes with the standing North-South corridor. As part of the first tranche, it was planned to modernize the roads from the intersection of Yerevan streets Arshakunyats - Bagratunyats to Noragavit, with the continuation towards Artashat highway and connecting with the North-South highway. The second tranche is planned, in particular, to extend the road from Noragavit to the intersection of Argavand - Shiraki streets, from there to Babajanyan streets in Malatia - Sebastia, up to the Ashtarak highway, and the third direction - from the Davitashen bridge to Ashtarak highway.
