ArmInfo. During our meeting with members of the "My Step" faction, we discussed a number of issues and problems regarding the police. This was announced on January 30 in an interview with reporters by the acting Chief of Police of Armenia Arman Sargsyan.
According to him, the meeting was very interesting and productive. "We will continue to hold meetings in this format, since a parliamentary system of government has been established in Armenia," Sargsyan stated.
When asked about the fact that police officers detained the co-founders of the Adequate party Arthur Danielyan and Konstantin Ter-Nakalyan, its members Grigor Minasyan and Azat Adamyan, the co-founder of the VETO initiative Narek Malyan, as well as the founder of the Civic Consciousness NGO Narek Samsonyan the acting chief of police emphasized that the police acted within their powers and did not violate the law. "We have the right to verify the information provided to us and detain certain people. After the search, we also have the right to release them if nothing was found," Sargsyan noted.
Regarding whether there is political persecution against these four persons, Sargsyan stated: "There is no place for political persecution in Armenia. There is no talk of that. If there would be political persecution of any persons in our country, then in Armenia there would be no place for democracy and freedom of speech, "said the acting police chief.
Regarding his presence on the post of acting head of the police, Sargsyan stated that there is a certain amount of time to be in charge of an acting person. "It seems that this period is 6 months, and until the last moment I will carry out my duties. I don't know whether I will become the head of the Police or not, this issue was not discussed," Sargsyan concluded.
