US Senate adopts resolution on recognition of Armenian Genocide on  fourth attempt

ArmInfo. On the fourth attempt, however, the US Senate unanimously adopted a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire.  Recall that  Resolution No. 150 was initiated and introduced by Senators Robert  Menendez and Ted Cruz.  The previous three attempts were unsuccessful  due to the fact that other senators vetoed the resolution at the  request of the White House administration.

In addition to recognizing and commemorating the Armenian Genocide,  the resolution also rejects attempts to enlist, attract or otherwise  associate the US government with the denial of genocide, and  encourage its origin and public understanding.  The resolution  provides for about the Armenian  Genocide.   said Menendez, speaking in the Senate.

In turn, Senator Ted Cruz noted that they had been speaking in the  Senate chamber for the third week, trying to adopt this resolution.  "I am grateful that today we have succeeded. This is a moment of  truth that was too long," said Cruz.

It should be reminded that the House of Representatives of the  Congress adopted resolutions on the recognition of the Armenian  Genocide by a majority of votes on October 29. Turkey then criticized  this step of the House of Congress, stressing that it rejects this  document.
