Director of the State Hermitage Museum, Russian historian-orientalist Mikhail Borisovich Piotrovsky was born on December 9, 1944 in Yerevan (Armenia). His father, Boris Piotrovsky (1908-1990), was an outstanding archaeologist, director of the State Hermitage in 1964-1990. In July 1992, by a regulation of the Russian government, Mikhail Piotrovsky was appointed director of the State Hermitage Museum.
