Armenian President Armen Sarkissian congratulated Mikhail Piotrovsky, Director General of the State Hermitage Museum, on his 75th birthday, appreciating the  academician's contribution in such areas as oriental studies, museum  work, pedagogy and the social science.  ArmInfo was informed about  this in the press service of the President of Armenia.

" Armenia is truly proud that the son of prominent scientists  Hripsime Janpoladyan and Boris Piotrovsky, who was born in Yerevan,  became a famous scientist, a brilliant specialist and runs one of the  leading museums and one of the largest and most famous art  collections in the world. We are grateful for your care in preserving  and popularizing the historical, cultural, spiritual and artistic  heritage of the Armenian people, "the message of the President of  Armenia reads.

Director of the State Hermitage Museum, Russian historian-orientalist  Mikhail Borisovich Piotrovsky was born on December 9, 1944 in Yerevan  (Armenia). His father, Boris Piotrovsky (1908-1990), was an  outstanding archaeologist, director of the State Hermitage in  1964-1990. In July 1992, by a regulation of the Russian government,  Mikhail Piotrovsky was appointed director of the State Hermitage  Museum.
