Lavrov: Much remains to be done with regard to a long-term political  settlement of the Karabakh conflict

ArmInfo. With respect to a long-term political settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, much remains to be done. This was announced on December 2 at a meeting  with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev by Russian Foreign Minister  Sergei Lavrov, who is on a two- day official visit to Baku.

The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that in Moscow as  regards bilateral cooperation in international organizations - both  regional and universal - they value close interaction, the desire to  always take into account each other's positions. "We will continue to  help defend our common positions, those important issues that are of  particular interest to both Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation.  This also applies to the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement. We are  interested in those agreements on confidence-building measures and  the establishment of humanitarian contacts , including through the  media that were reached at the Vienna summit and reaffirmed at the  ministerial meeting in Moscow, came to fruition, they are gradually  being implemented and I hope that the upcoming meeting of foreign  ministers this week GOVERNMENTAL Affairs of Azerbaijan and Armenia  will consolidate these processes, "Lavrov said.  He added that he  absolutely supported Aliyev's thesis that rhetoric should be avoided  in order to reach a settlement that goes against the fundamental  principles approved by both sides and enshrined in the UN Charter and  the Helsinki Final Act
