Yerevan and Stepanakert welcome US House of Representatives  Resolution 296

ArmInfo. Armenia welcomes the adoption by the House of Representatives of Resolution No. 296, which confirms the US position on the Armenian Genocide. This is  stated in the statement of the Armenian Foreign Ministry.

"This Resolution is of profound significance because it is committed,  through official recognition and tribute to the memory of the  Armenian Genocide, to reject its denial and to promote education and  awareness about the killing of 1.5 million Armenians in the Ottoman  Empire from 1915 to 1923, as a clear example 20th Century Genocide  Then the people and leadership of the United States made outstanding  efforts to respond to atrocities against Armenians, saving and  extending a helping hand to survivors of the Armenian Genocide. I am  home to a strong and active Armenian community of America, proud  citizens of their homeland who make a significant contribution to its  success and well-being, as well as to the friendship between our two  peoples. This Resolution is a tribute to the victims of the Armenian  Genocide, demonstrates respect for their dignity and testifies about  the endurance of survivors, "the statement of the Armenian Foreign  Ministry emphasizes.

At the same time, the Foreign Ministry emphasizes that Armenia  expresses deep gratitude to the members of the US House of  Representatives for their decisive and impressive vote on Resolution  No. 296, which testifies to their adamant commitment to the truth,  justice, humanity and solidarity and universal values of human  rights.

"This Resolution is an important contribution to international  efforts to prevent new genocides and mass atrocities anywhere in the  world that continue to shock human consciousness today. In recognition of the resolution, Artsakh Foreign Minister Masis  Mayilyan, who is on a working visit to the United States these days,  also spoke out. He said on his Facebook page that he was present in  the hall during the vote on the resolution. "At the end of the vote,  I had the opportunity to express my gratitude to the sponsors of the  Resolution - Frank Pallone and Anna Ash. For the Armenians, the  adoption of this resolution is not only moral, but also practical. It  will help ensure peace and stability in our region," Mayilyan wrote.   The adoption of the resolution was also welcomed by the speaker of  the Artsakh parliament Ashot Gulyan, who stated that this is a  long-awaited event for several generations of our compatriots who  survived the Genocide. "This resolution, for the successful  implementation of which not only yesterday, but also for many years,  has consistently worked for the Armenian community of America. This  bipartisan initiative is a clear signal to the world that the  recognition of crimes against humanity goes beyond political  speculation. Turkey was also assured that these actions of the House  of Representatives will affect US-Turkish relations.
