ArmInfo. The political process to resolve the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh is stuck, and so far it has not been possible to move forward. This was announced on October 1 at the XVI annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, answering a question from the State Duma lawmaker Konstantin Zatulin regarding a possible "re-activation of frozen conflicts," including the Karabakh conflict.
"As for Nagorno-Karabakh, the situation on the Line of Contact has been quite calm lately, there are few incidents and they are not very large. The bodies of the dead have been exchanged, an exchange of detainees is being prepared ;the process is ongoing although in small, very small steps. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group on Nagorno-Karabakh - Russia, France, the United States - work closely and amicably, having already met three times this year, if I am not mistaken, with the foreign ministers, including in April in Moscow with my participation. And as regards the situation on the ground I would say that it is now quieter than a year ago, but the political process is slowed, and for now it has not been managed to release the brakes, "Lavrov said.
At the same time, the Russian minister stated that the parties are making serious statements that do not help create an atmosphere of the political process. According to him, there were even such calls that Karabakh is part of Armenia. "Of course, this doesn't help the process. But we, as co-chairs, work in unison with the Americans and the French, thank God, this is probably one of the few situations where we have a completely unified vision, we have basic documents - we don't want to audit them, we want, on the basis of these basic principles, which have been discussed many times, to seek a solution. But the solution must, of course, be found through direct dialogue, "Lavrov said, adding that there are contacts, but the dialogue on the settlement has not yet been resumed.
However, according to Lavrov, he does not see any such obvious or even implicit danger in the resumption of some major hostilities. The Russian minister stressed that Moscow will do everything possible to prevent such developments.
