ArmInfo. The statement that any solution to the Karabakh problem should be acceptable for the peoples of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Nagorno-Karabakh, voiced by the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, sounds pretty nice. However, unfortunately, these statements are not connected with the specific agenda that has developed around the negotiation process today. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Artsakh Arman Melikyan expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.
Speaking at the 74th session of the UN General Assembly on September 27, Nikol Pashinyan once again voiced the necessity of any solution to the Karabakh problem to be acceptable for the peoples of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Nagorno-Karabakh.
"In this process, Armenia still cannot tie together the problems of Artsakh's status and territories, while the territorial integrity of Artsakh is not a priority for Armenia, which is officially reflected in the government's program. This suggests that the Armenian government continues to seek a solution to the problem in bargaining around the territories. "This approach is a dead end, because recognizing the possibility of surrendering the territories, Yerevan will automatically recognize the illegality of its own control over them," he stressed.
According to the diplomat, it is precisely this approach of Yerevan that allows Baku to hope for the restoration of legality in its understanding, both through negotiations and through the use of force. In this light, Melikyan sees the need for a radical revision by Armenia of such unproductive approaches, harmonization in the Armenian policy of the need to maintain territorial integrity with the requirement of legal recognition of Artsakh's independence.
"In this light, the New York statement by the Prime Minister of Armenia cannot contain the potential to influence the negotiations. Declarations can only be effective if they are accompanied by specific program actions, such actions through which it will be possible to change a very dangerous outline of the negotiation process for us. So far, it is unchanged, respectively, it is necessary to act in parallel with the words, "the diplomat concluded.
