ArmInfo.Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan on September 25 in New York at the UN headquarters met with the newly appointed Romanian Foreign Minister Ramona Manescu.
According to the press service of the Foreign Ministry, Mnatsakanyan emphasized that Armenia appreciates centuries-old friendly relations with Romania. Both sides expressed their readiness to continue to take effective steps to strengthen and expand mutually beneficial cooperation through high-level mutual visits and political consultations between the foreign ministries. The parties also noted the need to intensify contacts in the parliamentary format.
Speaking about bilateral cooperation in various formats, the interlocutors emphasized areas such as information technology, creative education, innovation, intellectual development, culture, science and agriculture as important areas. In this regard, the foreign ministers emphasized the importance of creating direct flights between Bucharest and Yerevan as an important step towards strengthening and intensifying tourism, trade, economic, cultural and intercultural contacts between the two countries. Mnatsakanyan and Manescu also emphasized the great role of the Armenian community of Romania as a bridge between the two countries.
In the context of Armenia-EU cooperation, Minister Mnatsakanyan touched upon the implementation of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, which is the legal basis for cooperation with the EU countries. The foreign ministers exchanged views on the prospects for the development of the Eastern Partnership program.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia presented Manescu the latest developments in the Nagorno- Karabakh conflict zone and the principled position and approaches of Armenia in the process of exclusively peaceful settlement of this issue.
