ArmInfo.Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia continued discussion of additional measures to reduce tension and maintain an atmosphere conducive to peace and the facilitation of substantive negotiations.
The corresponding statement was distributed following separate and then joint meetings of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs with Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia took place with the mediation and participation of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs Igor Popov (Russia), Stefan Visconti (France), Andrew Chauffer (USA) and personal representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Andrzej Kasprzyk. In the document, the co-chairs urge the parties to the conflict to minimize the use of rhetoric that is inflammatory or determines the outcome of the negotiations.
The co-chairs informed the two ministers of their activities following a joint meeting held in Washington in June, including recent consultations in Paris and Geneva on humanitarian and security aspects of the conflict.
The co-chairs noted the positive results of the parties' efforts to minimize violence in the summer, including the use of existing direct channels of communication, and expressed deep regret at the recent loss of life. The co-chairs intend to visit the region in the near future.
