Armenian Embassy in Russia monitors situation on "Upper Lars"

ArmInfo.The situation at the Upper Lars checkpoint from the Russian side is in the focus of attention of the Armenian Embassy in Russia and the Consulate General  in Rostov-on-Don.

"According to the embassy, the accumulation of trucks at the  checkpoint from the Russian side heading to Georgia is due to  technical reasons. In particular, due to the congestion of some  trucks, and exceeding permissible standards, which requires  additional clearance, and this in turn increases the border crossing  procedure. According to information received from the relevant  Russian structures, the Russian customs authorities take the  necessary steps to resolve the current situation, "the report  published by RA Embassy in the Russian Federation  on the Facebook  page reads.

At the same time, the diplomatic mission assured that they are in  constant contact with the appropriate structures in order to resolve  issues arising on the spot.

Earlier, it became known that on the Russian-Georgian border at the  Upper Lars checkpoint, a large congestion of 800 heavy vehicles from  the Russian side formed due to innovations in customs control.   According to customs information, weight control began to operate in  mid-September as part of a decree of the Government of the Russian  Federation of 1998 "On State Control over the Implementation of  International Road Transport". ''The checkpoint of the  North Ossetian customs is equipped with a complex of automatic  determination of weight and size characteristics of vehicles  , which allows you to automatically determine the weight  and overall parameters of international freight vehicles, including  the load on an axle or group of axles. In case of revealing the  excess of the permissible load on the axle or group of axles of  freight vehicles for violation of the rules for the movement of a  heavy bulky vehicle, administrative cases are brought against the  carrier or his representative>, the official statement says. The  introduction of weight control on the Upper Lars 21 years after the  adoption of the decree of the Government of the Russian Federation  was explained by the lengthy process of comprehensively equipping the  checkpoint. Meanwhile, heavy truck drivers claim that they did not  know about the innovations and are outraged by what is happening.
