ArmInfo. The body of the former Minister of Internal Affairs of Armenia, former head of the state security service Hayk Harutyunyan was found with a gunshot wound in the head. This was reported by the press service of the Armenian Police.
According to the source, according to the preliminary version of the police, he committed suicide. Meanwhile, as the Investigative Committee of Armenia reports upon the death of Hayk Harutyunyan, the Kotayk Regional Investigation Department is investigating the circumstances of the incident. According to preliminary data, on September 23 at 11.59pm a signal was received that a body of a man was found in one of the sanatoriums of Bjni. An operational investigation team arrived in place, which discovered the body of Hayk Harutyunyan with a gunshot wound in the head. A criminal case was initiated on the grounds of the first part of the 110th article of the RA Criminal Code. A study was made of the scene where traces of blood were found, as well as weapons and a cartridge. More information will be provided later.
To note, Hayk Harutyunyan held the post of Minister of Internal Affairs of Armenia in 2003-2008. He was held as a witness in the case of the events of March 1, 2008. At the end of May 2008, the newly elected President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, whose legitimacy is rejected by the overwhelming majority of Armenian society, dismissed the chief police officer of the country Hayk Harutyunyan. Then, by the decree of the then head of state, Hayk Harutyunyan was appointed head of the state security service, and after two years, in 2010, the general was transferred to the post of head of the punishment service of the Ministry of Justice of Armenia. According to some observers, Harutyunyan lost his seat as the chief police officer of the country due to the dramatic events that took place on March 1-2, which culminated in the death of 10 people.
