ArmInfo. In connection with a large fire in the Syunik region (Lehvaz- Vardanidzor, Arevik National Park, ed. note), Minister of Emergencies of Armenia Feliks Tsolakyan convened an extraordinary meeting of the operational working group. The head of the Ministry of Emergencies wrote about this on his page in Facebook.
The working group was presented with the situation. Based on the analysis and professional discussion, further fire extinguishing work was planned. "By my order, the rescue service units have been put on high alert. Since frequent communications equipment malfunctions occur in the fire zone, on my behalf, together with a group of rescuers led by the secretary of the operational headquarters, Colonel of Rescue Service Hovhannes Emishyan, the Ministry of Emergency Situations communication vehicle was also sent to the scene of the incident, which would allow establishing connection between the scene of the incident and the adjacent territory. Aerial reconnaissance will be carried out to control the directions and extent of the spread of the fire", Tsolyakyan said. It should be noted that the fire that started yesterday in Arevik National Park (the natural reserve is located in the south of Armenia, in the Armenian-Iranian border zone), was isolated. However, the threat of a forest fire still exists.
According to preliminary data, fires are located in hard-to-reach areas, juniper and spruce forests are burning. Trees of 300-400 or more years are burning. Juniper grows for a long time. A meter of a tree grows in 100 years. Director of the park Gagik Gevorgyan informed that at night, thanks to the rapid mobilization of the forces of firefighters, rescuers, police, caterpillar equipment was also thrown to the aid of the National Park staff. The fire by the morning of today was isolated.. In general, a fire covered 12 hectares of territories, of which 4 hectares is the juniper forest of Arevik National Park.
