ArmInfo. Armenian President Armen Sarkissian responded to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's call for his supporters to block court buildings across the country from early morning on May 20.
Pashinyan voiced this call after the court changed the measure of restraint against the country's second president, Robert Kocharyan, who was detained for 5 months in connection with the charge of overthrowing the constitutional order and bribery on a large scale. The President noted on his official page: "The fact that democratic processes in Armenia are irreversible should not cause doubts neither in Armenia nor outside its borders. According to the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, power belongs to the people. Consequently, the legislative, executive and judicial branches of power should reflect the collective will of the people of Armenia and serve their constitutional goals. Therefore, I urge all citizens of Armenia, regardless of their social and political status and positions, to maintain peace and tranquility, to respect Constitution and laws. Now, while on a business trip abroad, I keep in touch with the relevant government agencies. I urge to be sober and tolerant these days. God save us all. "
To note, the president's call was a response to statements by representatives of the former political power in the country that Armenia has a leader, who is Armen Sarkissian. As former Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia and former Justice Minister Arpine Hovhannisyan wrote on her Facebook page, who responded to the appeal of the Prime Minister, it was the President who, according to the Constitution, ensures the normal functioning of the legislative, executive and judicial authorities. "I remind you: the country has a leader, and this is Armen Sarkissian. This is the corresponding article in the Constitution about what the president should do. On October 2, he did not do anything. Now let's see what he will do now," wrote Arpine Hovhannisyan.
