ArmInfo. The current and former Presidents of Artsakh, Bako Sahakyan and Arkadi Ghukasyan, came the court, at a meeting of which the measure of restraint against second president of Armenia and first president of the NKR, Robert Kocharyan, accused of overthrowing the constitutional system, is being considered.
The presidents flew to Yerevan from Stepanakert by military helicopter.
To note, the presidents of NKR again presented a personal guarantee of release of Kocharyan from arrest, but the judge demanded their direct participation in the meeting for consideration of the document. Bako Sahakyan and Arkadi Ghukasyan asked for time until May 17, but the judge refused, setting a deadline of May 16.
To recall, for the first time Sahakyan and Ghukasyan submitted a similar petition to the Armenian General Prosecutor's Office, but Artur Davtyan stated that the case has already been submitted to the court and is outside its jurisdiction. The response of the RA Prosecutor General didn't like the secretary of the Artsakh Security Council Vitali Balasanyan, who said that Davtyan, out of respect for the NKR presidents, had to satisfy the petition.
RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan reacted quite harshly to all this, stating that the NKR authorities are simply unable to interfere in the internal affairs of Armenia. He expressed bewilderment why they did not intercede for another hero of the Artsakh war, Manvel Grigoryan.
Pashinyan also reminded that in his time another hero of Artsakh was in prison, but no one said anything at that (speaking about the former head of the NKR Defense Army Samvel Babayan, Ed. note). Despite this, the NKR Presidents submitted a second petition for the release of Kocharyan under their personal guarantee.
