ArmInfo.Geopolitics and recent transformations in the Middle East region dictate the Karabakh settlement to a more stable phase. MP of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan from the ruling Yeni Azerbaijan Party, political scientist Rasim Musabekov expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.
"When analyzing the Middle East situation, there is a clear threat of involving the instability of this region of neighboring Iran in the orbit. In this light, it would be very, very good to have time to bring the Karabakh process to a more stable phase. This would allow us to avoid the possibility of our region of an extensive crisis, "said the parliamentarian.
In this light, Musabekov highlighted the interest shown by the United States towards Azerbaijan and Armenia as countries neighboring Iran. At the same time, the Azerbaijani parliamentarian sees the need to stop viewing the Karabakh conflict as an arena of geopolitical games and the confrontation of great powers. According to his estimates, in return for Armenians and Azerbaijanis it's time to worry and start taking care of their own security, peace and prosperity.
At the same time, according to Musabekov, the interest and activity of the West: the United States and the European Union in advancing the Karabakh settlement process forward are in the interests of the parties to the conflict. He noted with regret that the Karabakh settlement, as well as the settlement of the Transnistrian, South Ossetian and Abkhazian conflicts, is not among the foreign policy priorities of Washington and Brussels. The existing attention of the West to the Karabakh problem, according to the parliamentarian, is due solely to the desire to prevent or balance Russia's sole moderator activity. Since 1992, the OSCE Minsk Group has been involved in resolving the Karabakh conflict, represented by the co-chairs from Russia, the United States and France. Currently, the settlement process is nominally based on the Madrid Principles put forward by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs in 2007 in Madrid and updated in 2009.
