ArmInfo. The need for a lustration procedure in Armenia is due to attempts at external interference in the internal affairs of the country. Director of the Armenian Institute for International and Security Affairs, member of the Public Council of Armenia Stepan Safaryan expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.
"In my opinion, right now the attempts of external intervention in the internal political life in Armenia have intensified. A number of events testify to this. I can say that the situation of 2012, 2016 and 2017 is repeated today. At the same time, right now I don't want mention the concrete names and countries involved in these processes. While in Iran's Isfahan, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that there should be no politicians in Armenia serving the interests of foreign countries. To implement his words, I propose to open the NSS SSC archives ", he emphasized.
Safaryan reminded that in 2011, being a member of parliament, he studied the experience of 6 countries for six months, on the basis of which he prepared the "On Lustration" draft law, which was not adopted at that time. According to his estimates, today there are all the prerequisites for adopting this law. In this light, the analyst suggests that the Prime Minister instruct the Public Council to study public opinion on the need to adopt this law.
"I am very pleased with the high degree of assistance of our citizens in this matter. In my opinion, this is due to the awareness of the destructive activities of foreign agents in Armenia in recent years. And this assistance is far from helping the idea alone, it is promoting the sovereignty of Armenia. We have already formed power with our own hands. And now we have to eliminate the foreign influence on the decision- making process at any level, " Safaryan said.
At the same time, the analyst urged not to succumb to manipulative statements, according to which de lustration will lead to the disclosure of Armenian agents. Safaryan is convinced that lustration will lead to the exposure of exclusively foreign agents in Armenia. According to his estimates, the changes that took place after the change of power in the republic, quite allow to bring to life the "On lustration" law. Moreover, this law, according to his estimates, will be a logical continuation of the change of power in the republic.
To note, on May 7, Stepan Safaryan's page on Facebook was hacked and virtually destroyed by unknown persons. It is Facebook that is the main platform for its public activities, and it was on his page that on May 6, he voiced the proposal to adopt the "On Lustration" draft law.
