ArmInfo. The government of Armenia considers it too costly to hold retreats of parliament in the regions of the republic, and therefore refused to initiate legislative action by the MP of the "Prosperous Armenia" opposition faction.
As Armenian Minister of Justice Artak Zeynalyan stated at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on May 2, MP of the Prosperous Armenia faction Sergey Bagratyan suggests to hold the National Assembly meetings in one of the regions twice a year for the uniform development of the regions. "We believe that there is a problem in this, since the provision of the whole process is associated with high costs and difficulties," said Zeynalyan, stating that this also will not serve the stated goal.
In addition, if necessary, the legislator himself may, according to the regulations, decide to hold a retreat. At the same time, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that in order to hold retreats, it is necessary to create appropriate conditions for parliamentarians, including spending money on furnishing the room for the MP and the courtroom. In addition, during the government hour, the presence of members of the executive body will also be required, which implies additional costs. "I was always interested in what opinion our Georgian colleagues hold about the transfer of the National Assembly from Tbilisi to Kutaisi. When I was a MP, I spoke with colleagues, they said that the decision did not justify itself and there were difficulties," the prime minister said.
