ArmInfo. Turkey is indignant at Italy's adoption of the resolution on the Armenian Genocide.
Ankara did not limit itself to a statement on this issue by the head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry, and "heavy artillery" went into action, this time with criticism of the Italian parliament already by he Erdogan administration.
A Spokesman for the Turkish president, Ibrahim Kalin, accused the Italian parliament of ignoring historical realities and sowing seeds of discord. "We strongly condemn this kind of approach, which ignores the call of our president to create a joint historical commission (on studying the events of 1915 - ed. note) and incites political populism," Kalin wrote on Twitter.
The recognition of the fact of the Armenian Genocide by the Italian Parliament did not escape the attention of Fahrettin Altun, Presidential Chief of Communication. "We condemn in the most resolute manner the attempts of the Italian Parliament to distort and politicize our history," Altun wrote in his Twitter account.
Altun called the position of the Italian Parliament "counterproductive, hostile and depressing." "Instead of attacking the memory of each other, we all have to work together to ensure the victory of truth over fiction," Altun added.
The night before, the Italian parliament adopted a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide, which recommended the government of the country to recognize the fact of the genocide. The resolution on recognition of the Armenian Genocide was adopted in the Italian parliament by 382 votes out of 432, 43 deputies abstained.
