ArmInfo.. In the letter of the former Deputy Minister of Defense Vahan Shirkhanyan there are facts that need legal assessments. On March 29, Prosecutor General of Armenia Artur Davtyan stated in an interview with journalists, answering the question of whether there are grounds for initiating criminal cases in the letter.
"I saw in the letter grounds that needed legal assessments. Whether there are grounds for initiating criminal cases in it, the facts obtained as a result of verification actions will be shown by the facts," the Prosecutor General emphasized.
To note, former Deputy Minister of Defense Vahan Shirkhanyan delivered an open letter addressed to the second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan. In his letter, Shirkhanyan accused Kocharyan of various crimes, in particular, election fraud, corruption, an attempt to exchange Meghri for Lachin. He also indirectly accused Kocharyan of the terrorist attack in the Armenian parliament on October 27, 1999.
The RA Special Investigation Service is already collecting materials on one of Shirkhanyan's accusations, in particular, regarding the rigged presidential elections of 1998. As part of the process, Shirkhanyan himself was questioned. SIS press secretary Marina Ohanjanyan on other charges stated to the ArmInfo correspondent that the special investigative service is not authorized to carry out actions. The National Security Service of Armenia told ArmInfo correspondent that the letter is still under consideration.
