Forecast: Recognition by the US President Golan Heights as Israel  part opens new opportunities for Yerevan in the direction of Artsakh

US President Donald Trump signed a proclamation recognizing Israeli  sovereignty over the Golan Heights on March 25 as part of Trump's  Washington talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.  Syrian Foreign Ministry praised the decision of Trump as blatant. In  turn, the European Union and Russia voiced their intention not to  recognize the Golan Heights as part of Israel.

"In other words, the reason for this step was the US strategic  importance of these heights for their regional ally Israel, ensuring  its security from a number of threats emanating from the territory of  Syria. Thus, this approach of Trump led to a significant decrease in  the importance of the principle of territorial integrity states and  Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's approach, voiced at a  meeting with Trump, according to which Syria lost the Golan Heights  as a natural result of its own aggression is of Armenia in the  context of the Artsakh problem, "he is convinced.

Moreover, according to analyst estimates, the political and legal  consequences of such an approach bring Armenia and Israel closer  together, since Azerbaijan has lost all its territories as a result  of its own aggression against the Artsakh people. In the light of  such parallels, Abrahamyan is convinced that the recognition of the  US President Golan Heights as part of Israel opens up new significant  opportunities for Yerevan. Of course, only if the leadership of  Armenia correctly perceives this situation as the legitimate basis  for revising its own foreign policy approaches.

"In my opinion, Armenian diplomacy needs to be made efforts and show  flexibility in projecting the situation around the Golan Heights  precedent on Artsakh. At the same time, it should be noted that, at  least for the past 15 years, Armenian diplomacy has not used such  opportunities, showing unacceptable for the conflicting countries  inertness and dynamics accordingly. However, sooner or later, we  still have to learn from our mistakes and, finally, use such  situations in order to obtain benefits for our own statehood, "  Abrahamyan concluded.
